Drop shipping configuration for specific items

Overview

This document will detail the steps to a "Drop Shipping" configuration for specific items. This will be useful when you are selling an product which you do not carry inventory for directly and are instead processing order for items that are shipped by the manufacturer or other third party, and need to selectively send the order details to the third party via email notifications. 

A Summary of the Configuration Steps:

  1. Setup each shipping DC 
  2. Configure each DC with the EMAIL/SMTP "Transmission Mechanism" and assign the vendor email. 
  3. assign each item to the appropriate DC (in the inventory control and distribution sub-tab of the shipping tab in item editor 

Step Details

Configuring the Distribution Center

The first thing you'll need to do is configure the shipping "Distribution Center" for each separate manufacturer / external shipping department..

Configuring the Transmission Mechanism

After configuring the Distribution Center you'll configure the transmission mechanism with the EMAIL/SMTP mechanism.

You'll need to configure at least the three fields highlighted in red in the above screenshot fo the configuration fields ("Company Name", Email, "Generic Two Way For USPS")

Configure the items to be handled by the drop shipping Distribution Center

Finally, you'll need to configure the items to be handled by the drop shipping distribution center. 

You can do that via the "Inventory Control and Distribution" sub-tab to the shipping tab in the item editor.

Selecting/Unselecting DC's

You'll need to make sure to un-select the checkbox for any other configured distribution centers, leaving only the drop shipping DC selected.
