Configuring Free Shipping for Items
This guide explains the various ways to configure free shipping for items within UltraCart, ensuring your customers benefit from this offer.
Overview
UltraCart provides several flexible options to enable free shipping, catering to different scenarios such as individual item settings, auto-order configurations, and coupon-based promotions. Understanding each method allows you to implement the most suitable free shipping strategy for your products.
Item Configuration Options
You can enable free shipping directly within the item editor in multiple locations.
Item or Kit Tab - Shipping Section
The primary location for configuring free shipping for a standard item or kit is within the Shipping section of the Item/Kit tab of the item editor.
Navigation: Main Menu > Items > Item Management > Item Editor > Shipping Section
Attention: Secondary configuration Step Required For this Free Shipping checkbox to work, you must also configure one or more of your shipping methods as "Qualifies for Free Shipping." Navigate to the Shipping Methods tab within the Shipping Configuration area and place a check in the corresponding box for the desired shipping methods.
Item and Kit Editor - Auto Order Tab
For items configured with Auto Order functionality, free shipping options are available within the Auto Order tab of the item editor.
Customer Selectable Auto Order Type
If your Auto Order type is "Customer Selectable," enable free shipping as shown below:
Automatic Auto Order Type
For "Automatic Auto Order Type," the free shipping setting is located in the "Options" section:
Note: Special Note for Auto Orders The "Free Shipping" setting in the Auto Orders tab applies free shipping to both the first order and all subsequent recurring auto-orders.

Shipping Tab of the Item Editor
The Shipping tab of the item editor offers two additional locations to configure free shipping.
General Settings Section of The Main Shipping Tab
You can configure free shipping in the General Settings section of the main Shipping tab.

Method Specific Options Sub Tab
The Method Specific Options sub-tab allows you to specify particular free shipping methods. When using this section, you do not need to separately configure the shipping method with the "Qualifies For Free Shipping" setting, as it is implicitly handled here.
Coupons
UltraCart provides various coupon types that can be configured to offer free shipping as part of a promotional offer. Specific details on configuring free shipping via coupons are available in the Coupons Guide.
