Overview
A campaign is a communication sequence sent to a large collection of customers at one time. A campaign can be sent to one or more lists or segments.
Creating a Campaign
Navigate to the Campaigns sub-menu under Communications and click New Campaign.
The new campaign dialog will appear as shown below.
Give the campaign a name.
Select the lists and segments.
By default all lists and segments are included into one combined customer pool.
(Optionally you can exclude customers who are on a particular list or segment.)
Adjust the address information for the campaign if you want to use something other than your default marketing email address.
Click the ‘Create Campaign
At this point, steps, statistics, and other configuration are the same between flows and campaigns.
See: Steps
Next, configure the steps to the campaign and customize the the Email content.
Request review for each ‘Send Email’ step.
When ready to send, click View and Send.
Important: Once a campaign starts sending, its recipient list is locked in. Adding a list or segment after the campaign is running will not trigger a resend to those contacts (see FAQ).
FAQ
Q: How can I edit email content in a campaign?
A: Navigate to Main Menu > Storefronts > (Select Storefront Host) > (Storefronts Menu) Communications > Campaigns. Create a new campaign or edit an existing campaign. Add an email step, or mouse over an existing email step's three-dot menu and choose Edit Content.
Note: You must have the "use communications" permission to edit a campaign.
Q: Can I add a list/segment to a campaign that's already sending?
A: No. Once the campaign is running, it has already calculated the customers it needs to send to, so adding another list/segment will not trigger a resend of the campaign. Set up a new campaign and send it to the new list/segment you wanted to reach.
Q: We started a campaign with two email steps separated by a week. The second email is scheduled for tomorrow. We want to change the body content, edit the coupon's expiration date, and remove some extra steps. Will these changes affect the active campaign?
A: Yes, these changes will apply as long as recipients have not yet reached the removed or modified steps. The coupon expiration date is checked only when the customer initiates checkout with the coupon, so the updated expiration will take effect.
Q: I created two campaigns exactly the same and have them both scheduled to send. Is there a way to cancel one?
A: For the campaign you wish to cancel, mouse over the three-dot menu and click Edit. In the campaign settings section, click the pencil icon to edit the campaign, clear the date out of the "When should we send out this campaign?" field, then save the changes. You may also choose to Archive the campaign — from the campaigns list, mouse over the three-dot menu and click Archive.
This only works before the campaign starts sending. See the next question if the campaign is already running.
Q: My campaign already started sending with the wrong send date or content. How do I stop it?
A: A campaign cannot be stopped or paused once it has started sending — UltraCart does not support canceling an in-flight send. Clearing the scheduled send date (see previous question) has no effect once sending is underway; that field only prevents a campaign from starting in the first place.
Your options once a campaign is already running:
Disable the remaining email steps. This lets the campaign run its course without sending any further content. Steps that are disabled or held for review show as "skipped" in the campaign statistics rather than "sent." If you don't see an option to disable a step yourself, contact UltraCart Support — they can mark the remaining steps as requiring review or disabled on your behalf.
Create a new campaign. If the original campaign needs to go out with corrected content or timing, build a separate campaign with the correct schedule, route the emails through review, and send that one instead. The original campaign will continue to show as sent/skipped in reporting, but no further emails will reach customers from it.
There is currently no merchant-facing "stop" or "pause" action for a campaign that has already started sending.
