An alternative 2-step authentication application to the Google Authenticator is the Yubico Authenticator application.
The Yubico Authenticator works very much like the Google authenticator, with the difference being that the application only works when you plug the Yubico (USB-C) key into your phone while running the Yubico Authenticator application.
