It's possible to create multiple versions of an item, either as separate items or through the use of a kit item. This approach to the item configuration allows for a single purchase checkout via paypal and also an auto order configuration (typically using a kit item if the item is a tangible/shipable product) to apply an auto order configuration "on top" of the single purchase item.
I have the "PayPal Payments Pro" integration, will I be able to process auto orders?
Yes, so long as you configure the "Rick Report and Risk Controls" within your Paypal account so that the CVV# is not required for the auto order rebills. The customer will be prompted for their credit card details during the UltraCart checkout process and Ultracart will transmit their billing details to PayPal for authorization (or decline.)

Auto orders start processing on the platform at midnight EST. The platform continues processing them until finished which can vary depending upon the volume to process on any give day. The goal being that all of them are processed before 7AM when the first east coast fulfillment houses open to begin preparing shipments.
How can I configure an auto order to trigger on a specific day of the month, regardless of when the auto order item is originally purchased?
The way this should be accomplished is to start off the auto order items auto order steps with a "pause" step and then set the delay until a future date. All new orders placed will pause rebilling until that date. As you ship for that month, just edit the item and set a new pause date.
How do I go about making changes to a specific customers' auto order only? (change items, billing amount, etc.)?
To affect the auto order if a specific customer, you'll make the changes within the "auto order" record. (Changes for all customers with active auto order for an item, you'll need edit the auto order steps within the "auto order" tab, in item editor.
When making recurring payments, do most companies using UltraCart make the user create an account on the checkout page before they complete the order, or is it possible to have that step on the receipt?
Most merchants do not require a customer profile to checkout, because it introduces additional friction for the customer, and therefore is not necessary. If they come back after the original and establish a customer profile with the same email, the system will backfill their customer profile with their order history.
Once a customer has an account, what are the options within the account to change address, change frequency, change qty, and cancel a subscription?

Is it possible to add new items to a subscription once it’s started, or does the customer have to go through the checkout process again?
You, the merchant, can edit the customers auto order record and add or remove auto order items (you cannot add one time purchase items in the auto order editor, they must be configured with an auto order schedule. The customer does not have that option within their customer profile.
Which payment types are valid for auto order/ subscription purchases, is it only credit cards?
All credit card types that you have configured to process through your credit card processing gateway are valid for auto order purchases. PayPal is supported for auto orders, with the following qualifications:
- The auto order must be simple enough to match PayPal's billing engine (This means it needs to be a single item step with a set recurring order interval.)
- No adjustments are possible as PayPal controls everything
- The customer can cancel at any time within their PayPal account.
Is it possible to have recurring/subscription upsells included, or are the upsells only 1-time purchase?
Upsell items are compatible with the upsell after configuration. Many merchants will use an upsell to offer the product on subscription at a discounted price, when the customer intiially chooses the single time purchase item during their initial checkout. PLEASE NOTE: Auto order items as upsell offers will only support credit card payment type.
