Configuring a DMARC DNS Record for your Domain

If you’re reading this article, you’ve probably read that Google wants a DMARC record configured for your domain to improve email delivery. First let’s cover what a DMARC record is:

A DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance) DNS record is a DNS TXT record that tells other email servers how to handle reporting and handling of emails. To make this easy we’ll link you to another tool that has a wizard to help you create the DNS record:

Step 1 - enter your domain
Step 2 - We recommend rejecting emails that don't conform to your domain.
Step 3 - enter an email address that should be send the DMARC reports for further analysis.
Step 4 - Select no if you want aggregated reports or yes if you want individual reports.
Step 5 - Keep the default settings unless you are familiar with DKIM and SPF and know you have it configured properly.
Step 6 - Keep at no. This will make your policy effective for all sub-domains.
Step 7 - Leave at 100% so that the policy applies to all emails.
