How to prevent a placed order from processing for shipping fulfillment?

Circumstances may occur in which a particular order that has been placed and processed for payment is not ready for immediate shipment fulfillment. In such situations, you may need to ensure that the order is not automatically processed for fulfillment. The tutorial will describe the options that are available to handle the order.
Instructions
The first thing that needs to be determined is the configuration of the shipping distribution center / shipping department.
Is the DC configured with a fulfillment center handling the fulfillment processing, or as self serviced shipping department.
Self Service Distribution Center
For self-service shipping departments, you can simply change the label of the order to reflect that it’s on hold. Select the order then click the ‘Change status’ button, then select the appropriate status then click the ‘Apply’ button in the dialog window.
You can configure custom Status’s and change their color code. To modify the order status' navigate to the shipping configuration and then edit the distribution center and then navigate to the ‘Order Status Codes’ tab in the DC editor.
Third Party Fulfillment Distribution Center
For third party fulfillment center configuration, you’ll need to be aware of the transmission schedules to determine if the order has already been transmitted for fulfillment or not. If it has been transmitted, then you’ll need to either log into the fulfillment service website or contact them to alert them to the need to hold the order from being shipped.
If the order has not been transmitted, you can remove the order from the transmission queue. Please note that doing so will require manual follow up to requeue for pickup.
Moving orders to the Held Orders order location
Aside from the previously described options, you can also move orders to the “Held Orders” location in the Order Management Lifecycle.
To move th order to ‘Held Orders’ order location, edit the order and then in the ‘Other’ tab of the order editor, select ‘Held Orders’ from the Order Location drop-down list, then click the move button.
