Locking your Storefront Host

Locking your Storefront Host

Introduction

Locking a storefront makes it private and inaccessible to the public. This feature is useful when you no longer want the storefront to be active, but you still want to preserve the configuration, theme, and data for historical or reference purposes.

Tip: Locking a storefront is functionally the equivalent of deleting a storefront. If you want to permanently remove a storefront, lock it instead.

Prerequisites

  • An UltraCart account with access to the Storefronts menu.

  • The storefront you wish to lock must already exist.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Lock Your Storefront

  1. Navigate to Main Menu → Storefronts → (Select Storefront Host).

  2. Click Lock Your Store.

  3. Confirm the dialog windows that appear.

After locking, a red bar will appear along the top of the page to indicate the storefront is locked.

After clicking the "Lock Your Store" and confirming the initial dialog windows, you'll see a red bar along the top of the page like this:

2. Navigating to Locked Storefronts

  • Locked storefronts will not appear in the Main Menu → Storefronts pop-out menu.

  • To access a locked storefront:

    1. Navigate to an active storefront.

    2. Use the drop-down menu in the General tab to switch between storefronts, including locked ones.

Only unlocked storefronts appear in main menu

PLEASE NOTE:
Locked storefronts will not appear in the Main Menu > Storefronts pop-out menu. If you wish to unlock a locked storefront
navigate to an active storefront then in the drop-down menu that appears at the top of the storefronts "General" tab you can select any
of the storefronts, whether they be locked or unlocked:

3. Viewing a Locked Storefront (While Logged In)

If you are logged into the UltraCart backend and browse a locked storefront, you’ll see a note in the top-right corner of the page. This note includes a temporary password that can be shared with others.

The note will appear in the top right corner of the page displaying a password that can be shared with others in order to view the page:

4. Viewing a Locked Storefront (While Logged Out)

If anyone attempts to browse a locked storefront without being logged into the UltraCart backend, they will see a lock screen instead of the storefront content.

5. Providing Temporary Access

To allow someone to view the locked storefront:

  1. Share the temporary password displayed on your locked storefront view.

  2. Provide them with the following URL format:

https://<yourstore>.ultracartstore.com/?password=<temporary-password>

Replace <yourstore> with your storefront domain and <temporary-password> with the provided password.

Conclusion

Locking a storefront is the safest way to retire it without losing historical data. Since locking functions as deleting, you should lock a storefront whenever you want to permanently discontinue it.
